ANDREAS SCHULENBURG

Andreas Schulenburg (b. 1975) was born in Germany and was later educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Schulenburg works with several different genres and media – amongst other ceramics, drawing, felt and sculpture. Yet, his favoured media remains felt, which is used for both small objects, large sculptures and two dimensional pictures.

The common denominator for Schulenburg is a profound focus on the imaginative in his work on the relationship between nature and culture. His felt works hold a rather poetic sensibilty, where the soft expression of the felt always covers serious problematics that often refer to the human existence and the different threats, this existence face as for example natural disasters. With his sculptures and objects in felt Andreas Schulenburg strives to change our usual view of the logic of things, which is realized through a humoristic and absurd twist of nature/culture resulting in a reflection on the traditional order of reality.
